David Barry

Before joining the Department of Early and Middle Grades Education at West Chester, Dr. David Barry was a Kindergarten teacher in the Boston Public Schools for ten years, a Teaching Fellow at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a Master Teacher (Pre-K) and lab instructor at The University of Texas at Austin's laboratory school. His research interests include early childhood teacher education, the prioritization of self-compassion within and across teacher education programs, and the importance of accurate, loving depictions of diverse characters in children's literature. He has presented his research at national and regional conferences and has published a book with Teachers College Press titled "Addressing Stress with Self-Compassion: A Guide for Early Childhood Teachers."
