Energy and Sustainability

The Energy Management Office monitors and manages West Chester University’s energy consumption to assure efficient and economical usage. Reviewing utility rates and monitoring monthly usage of electricity, natural gas, fuel oil, water and sewer is key to maintaining current energy conservation measures and identifying new opportunities to conserve energy. The office employs an automated Building Management System that not only monitors and records energy consumption in campus buildings but, also controls HVAC equipment schedules and temperature set points as well. The Energy Management Office also manages WCU’s geothermal central distribution system and energy-related projects including new installations and modifications to improve existing equipment and systems. WCU has been involved in past Guaranteed Energy Savings Agreement projects that resulted in significant reductions in energy consumption and, moving forward, plans to identify and pursue future GESA projects including lighting, HVAC systems and controls and building envelope improvements.
