Distillate - Student Work Leadership and the Good Life Course 2024
One student in the Fall HON 352: The Good Death course, Johnathan Mosher, explored themes of death, dying, and grief through an original composition. Drawing inspiration from a range of influences, including a guest speakers and course readings. The song shifts between what he described as “heavy" and “light" moments, mirroring the complex nature of grief itself. A key feature of the song is its beat inconsistency, which serves to create a sense of disconnection at times, while also drawing listeners into a deeper emotional engagement. The fluidity of life is symbolized through the sound of a water drop, created using an organ, reflecting the fluid nature of existence.
